ScaleOut StateServer Grid Computing Edition (SOSS/GCE) was designed to address these challenges. Its distributed cache stages data in-memory within the compute grid to avoid bottlenecks in accessing backing storage. SOSS/GCE also introduces a unique new feature called "parallel method invocation" (PMI), which provides two key benefits. PMI enables applications to reach maximum performance by letting the distributed cache schedule work on the compute nodes where the data already resides, eliminating unnecessary data motion. It also creates a "map/reduce" application framework that dramatically reduces development time while automatically harnessing the full power of a compute grid.
In this case study, ScaleOut Software partnered with Lab49 to evaluate the actual benefits of using ScaleOut StateServer Grid Computing Edition in a typical, real-world, financial services application. This study implemented a back-testing framework for automated equity trading strategies using SOSS/GCE's new PMI feature. The results were significant.
